FIRST TREE PLANTING EVENT IN EUROPE
As part of Toshiba’s 1.5 million tree initiative, on April 8th, 2011 about fifty Toshiba employees and executives from Toshiba Europe GmbH, Toshiba TEC Germany Imaging Systems GmbH and Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH assisted the external partner Bergwaldprojekt in planting 2,000 trees to help replace those lost in the big storm “Kyrill” in January 2007.
This tree planting event was held as a part of Toshiba Group’s “1.5 Million Tree Planting” initiative which reflects the spirit of Toshiba’s Environmental Vision 2050, our commitment to environmental management practices that promote harmony with the Earth, and for contribution to the local society of Toshiba group as a good corporate citizen of planet Earth.
The tree planting of indigenous deciduous trees (Sycamore, Maple, European beech) will help to establish a new, near-natural and stable forest generation, while better protecting local watersheds and restoring indigenous forest habitats for native wildlife. The tree planting event was a very special occasion to gather employees of three operating companies, to help restore the municipal forests damaged by the big storm. It was a very rewarding experience for each volunteer participating in the tree planting event.
Experienced foresters ensured a broad and lively knowledge transfer in respect of the work done, and the forest as an ecological system. Through this, employees could commit themselves to nature. This first European planting event was very well accepted and many employees are looking forward to the next tree planting day in autumn 2011.
