For student researchers, the laboratory offers a number of sponsorship opportunities and industrial supervision of the highest calibre to include a 3 month placement in the laboratory. The Communications and Signal Processing Group is looking for an exceptional candidate to join their team of researchers. The Group conduct research on a variety of communication topics, ranging from power amplifier and digital baseband to smart grid research.
The applicant should be a junior researcher with a Ph.D. in the relevant research area with a maximum of 2–3 years postdoc experience. The relevant areas of specialisation should be in advanced digital signal processing, modulation and coding, massive MIMO, full duplex radio, new waveforms, or physical layer techniques relevant for 5G. Individuals with a strong background in applied mathematics, statistics, or optimization are welcome to apply. The research engineer is expected to be motivated to innovate, produce high quality publications, able to work independently while thriving in a team environment.
The applicant should have a PhD in a relevant area (or working towards completion of a PhD programme), a good understanding of digital communication systems, especially modulation and coding, a strong background in signal processing for communications and be proficient in MATLAB programming. Understanding of mathematical optimisation will be a plus.
In addition to the above skills it is desirable but not necessary that the applicant is familiar with wireless standards such as 3GPP LTE/LTE-A Systems, IEEE 802.11n/ac/ax, or Bluetooth. Experience with DSP boards and/or FPGA programming is highly desirable.
