Bristol Research and Innovation Laboratory

The Information and Communications Technology (ICT) revolution has transformed our lives. We are used to communicating almost anywhere, at any time. Computing, communications and content continue to converge, creating new applications and services. Achieving this requires ICT technology that can reliably accommodate ever more complex multimedia applications, alongside social infrastructures that use increasingly sophisticated networking systems.

Since its inception in 1998, the Bristol Research and Innovation Laboratory (BRIL – formally TRL) has been at the cutting edge of research into technologies, including next generation wireless networking, reconfigurable device architectures. 2008 saw BRIL responding to changes in the technology world by broadening its research into several fast-growing Information and Communications Technology (ICT) areas. By 2011, BRIL was already established as one of the prominent Internet of Things (IoT) research labs in Europe.

BRIL works closely with colleagues in Toshiba’s development laboratories and business units around the world to ensure a timely transfer of research into products and applications. Today, BRIL continue to make ground-breaking advances in emerging areas and create technologies that works towards a more sustainable environment, ensuring Toshiba has the capabilities to adhere to its long-standing statement of being “Committed to People, Committed to the Future”

At BRIL, we are constantly reinventing the future.
