Multiplexed QKD System MU
Optimum QKD performance, easy integration
Quantum computing is threatening to render public key encryption techniques insecure, with data in transit particularly vulnerable to attack. QKD (Quantum Key Distribution) provides the answer, enabling quantum-safe cryptography across fiber networks.
QKD normally requires separate dark fibers dedicated solely to carrying quantum signals. But with Toshiba’s Multiplexed QKD System MU, you can easily integrate QKD on to existing data carrying fibers – and without any compromise to performance.
Deployed over an existing single fiber or a fiber pair, the MU QKD System uses O-band WDM technology to overlay quantum signals with network data, eradicating the need for an additional dark fiber. This true co-existence between QKD and data dramatically reduces the CAPEX and OPEX costs involved in delivering quantum-safe encryption.
With simple setup, auto-alignment, real-time optimization and high key rates, Multiplexed QKD System MU ensures operators are set up to deliver QKD across their networks.
Ultimate quantum security, all on the fiber you already have.
Highlights
Features & Benefits
Quantum-secure networking with easy integration
Toshiba’s MU system reduces the CAPEX costs and complexity of deploying QKD by eliminating the need for additional dark fiber. Using WDM, MU enables QKD signals to co-exist on fiber carrying multiple 10 Gb/s or 100 Gb/s classical data channels by multiplexing the O-band QKD signal with C-band data services.
Ultimate security
All Toshiba QKD systems use an efficient implementation of BB84, the first and most rigorously studied QKD protocol, proven secure through years of research. The BB84 protocol provides inherent protection from quantum computers and any future advances in mathematics.
Incredibly Stable. Incredibly Reliable.
At Toshiba, we’ve pioneered active stabilization technology that allows our QKD systems to distribute key material continuously, in challenging operating conditions, without any user intervention. This avoids the need for recalibration of the system due to temperature-induced changes in the fiber lengths.
The reliability and stability of our QKD systems has been demonstrated in numerous deployments. In fact, at a theoretical level, the probability of key failure using our technology is < 1 x 10-10 – equivalent to less than once every 30,000 years.
Metro-scale networking of QKD and data services
The MU system offers unprecedented, metro-scale transmission distances of 50 miles+ while transmitting QKD and data services on the same fiber, thanks to its exceptionally high optical loss budget (30 dB).
Simple setup…
Our Multiplexed QKD Systems are easy to get up and running, with built-in add/drop filters for simple integration into existing fiber networks. This means all user traffic can be passed through without any additional multiplexing hardware. Once positioned in a standard 19″ rack mount, the QKD hardware offers automated start-up and real-time optimization thanks to active stabilization technology.
…and easy operation
A user-friendly interface, accessed through a web-browser, provides real-time and historical performance data.
Key management & delivery system
Toshiba’s REST-based Key Management System provides efficient and reliable key storage and delivery. It uses ETSI industry standards, so it’s compatible with leading encryptor vendors and other applications.
Class-leading key rates
Toshiba QKD systems all offer high secret bit rates – even over existing deployed fiber. MU is proven to deliver 300 kb/s secure key rates at 10 dB channel loss, making it capable of supporting a diverse range of customers and applications, and providing headroom for future demands.
